SURVEY & INTERESTING FACTS
In 2016 Solid Maths Foundations assessed all the Grade 8 classes at a Pretoria East Private School.
The aim was to assess each student and to find out what Mathematical concepts they had mastered in their primary school years. The student group was tested on Grade 5 – 7 Maths.
It came as no surprise that there were GAPS in their fundamental understanding of Maths concepts. Many of the students had GAPS as far down as Grade 5.
Solid Maths Foundations has seen this as a common trend throughout all schools – making no difference whether the students are in a private or state-owned school.
- Basic Number Theory of Whole Numbers, Fractions and Decimals.
- Changing from Fractions to Decimals and vice-versa. Changing Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions and vice versa.
- Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide Fractions and Decimals.
- Converting Fractions, Decimals and Mixed Numbers to equivalent Percent, working with Percentages.
- BODMAS and Inequalities.
- Scientific Notation – Exponents and Radicals.
- Distributive Property and Prime Factorization
- Perimeter and Area of Polygons.
- Solving Algebraic Expressions and Equations.
- Measurements of Central Tendency, Representing Data and Probability.
- Basic Geometric concepts.
